The Science Behind Our Skin Perfecting Results

IPL: Intense Pulsed Light

Unlike a single-wavelength laser, our professional IPL system uses a broad spectrum of light. This allows us to precisely target different chromophores in the skin, such as melanin (for sun spots and pigmentation) and hemoglobin (for redness and thread veins). The light energy is absorbed by these targets, which are then safely broken down by the body, leaving you with a clearer, more even skin tone. This process is non-invasive and requires no downtime.

Laser Skin Resurfacing: The Fractional Erbium Advantage

Elevate your skin renewal with our advanced fractional erbium laser resurfacing treatments. This medical grade technology works by delivering precise micro-beams of light to create controlled thermal channels deep within the skin. This fractional process stimulates the body’s natural healing response, powerfully boosting new collagen and elastin production while removing old, damaged skin cells. Unlike standard IPL treatments which primarily address surface level pigmentation and redness, our erbium laser penetrates deeper to effectively target and correct more severe skin concerns like acne scarring, fine lines, deep wrinkles, stretch marks, surgical scarring and significant texture issues, developing a superior level of skin tightening and long lasting structural rejuvenation with less downtime than traditional ablative lasers.

Target fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage, pigmentation, redness, thread veins, signs of aging, acne inflammation, breakouts and scarring to restore even skin tone and brightness.

  • Most clients describe IPL and laser as a mild snapping sensation or warmth on the skin. Treatment is generally well tolerated, and the built in cooling technology helps keep you comfortable. For erbium treatments a cooling pack can be used during treatment to ease any discomfort if required.

  • IPL: Most clients require a course of 3–6 sessions, spaced 3–4 weeks apart, depending on the concern being treated and individual skin response.

Erbium laser: Treatments should be spaced 3-6 weeks apart depending on indication and skin type. Depending on the size and depth of any scarring, stretch mark or other skin texture irregularities, several treatments will typically be required to achieve significant reduction/improvement. For most clients a course of 3-6 sessions would be recommended.

Having only 1-2 treatments or spacing treatments more than 6 weeks apart will likely result in poor clinical outcomes as the effects of the treatment are cumulative (similar to an exercise program).

  • For both IPL and laser resurfacing, improvements in skin tone and clarity are often visible after the first session, with optimal results developing progressively over the treatment course.

  • With IPL, downtime is minimal. You may experience mild redness or darkening of pigmentation for a few days, which naturally fades as the skin renews.

Our erbium laser is non ablative which means there is minimal downtime. As opposed to more aggressive CO2 ablative lasers, our erbium laser does not break the skin meaning there should be no scabbing, blistering or peeling. Typically within 24hrs post-treatment, the effects may present like mild erythema sunburn. Post-treatment care should be followed to minimise any discomfort and/or redness, such as applying aloe vera gel. With correct care, these side effects will typically subside within 72 hours.

  • IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) and Erbium laser are both effective skin rejuvenation treatments, but they work in different ways and target different skin concerns.

IPL uses broad-spectrum light to target pigment and redness in the skin. It works best on surface-level concerns such as sun damage, freckles, age spots, redness, and uneven skin tone. IPL improves overall skin clarity and brightness with minimal downtime, making it ideal for gradual, maintenance-based skin rejuvenation.

Erbium laser, on the other hand, uses a focused laser wavelength to heat the deeper layers of the skin without damaging the surface. This stimulates collagen production and skin renewal from within, making it more effective for improving skin texture, fine lines, acne scarring, enlarged pores, and early signs of ageing. Results are more structural and long-term compared to IPL.

  • The aftercare advice for IPL and laser is the same as for hair removal.

  • IPL is safest for lighter to medium skin tones. A thorough consultation and patch test are essential to ensure suitability and safety.

Erbium laser is safe for use on all skin tones.
